Jean Claude Van Damme for The Expendables 2?

Sylvester Stallone; the action legend known for playing iconic roles such as Rocky, and Rambo; is still riding high on the success of his latest action movie The Expendables, and has been making further suggestions that the plans for a sequel are well under way, and constantly evolving.

Sly stated, just prior to the release of The Expendables, that if the movie did well he would consider making a sequel; and as action fans the world over rushed to see the film which not only featured a stellar cast (including Universal Soldier’s Dolph Lundgren, Crank’s Jason Statham, Hero’s Jet Li, and Iron Man 2’s Mickey Rourke), and was a return to the ‘80s style action blockbuster for which Sly is best known, but placed Sly, Arnold Schwarzenegger (Commando), and Bruce Willis (Die Hard), in the same scene for the first time ever, it’s no wonder that he’s been planning a second outing.

Earlier today Stallone commented that “the new story line for the next Expendables is taking shape”, but added that there are “many twists” that he’s “yet to figure out”; something that shouldn’t come as a great surprise, as he’s said before that making a sequel “isn’t easy”, and that he’s planning on doing “something quite radical” with this one.

He also stated that despite Jean Claude Van Damme (JCVD) turning down the opportunity to appear in the first movie, his appearance could be a “possibility” for The Expendables 2; and that having the actor play “the baddest of the bad”, would make for a “painful and fun choice, for whoever gets to do battle with him.

But despite the stream of hints, thoughts, and hopes, coming from Sly (which have so far included making Bruce Willis the main villain in the sequel, and replicating the fight he had with Condemned star Steve Austin), a sequel to The Expendables is not only sometime off, but may even see Sly’s character moving on, as he said earlier today, “The Rock [Dwayne Johnson, Faster] “could eventually replace me.”

For now however, fans will have to content themselves with the Blu-ray and DVD release of the fun-filled, explosion laden, first film; which will be hitting shelves later this month in the U.S., and finding its way into U.K. homes on December 13th.
