John Wick Sequel Confirmed

John Wick posterWhile John Wick hasn’t even been released in the UK, it appears as though the Keanu Reeves (The Matrix) action/thriller has done enough Stateside to earn itself a sequel; as director Chad Stahelski and David Leitch (the ex-stuntmen turned directing-team who recently entered talks to helm Chris Pratt’s Cowboy Ninja Viking) are already trying to hammer out ideas for a second instalment.

Reeves headlines Wick as the titular ex-assassin who retired from his life of shooting people following the death of his wife, but finds himself drawn back into the game, on a revenge-fuelled quest, when a rabble of random hoodlums happen to steal his car and kill his favourite dog. Already being touted as a cult hit in the US, there’s clearly a desire to see more, though as yet it’s not clear if Keanu would return, or what direction the second movie could take.

Speaking to movies.com Stahelski said “We have ideas for days and without blinking twice we know we can outdo the action from the original,” Stahelski says. “It’s the matter of story and how much you like the character. That’s always the most important. If there’s great action but you have a character that no one likes and doesn’t have charisma you’re not going to watch it. Look at any great action star, whether it’s Harrison Ford or Liam Neeson or Robert Downey Jr., pick a name, you love the guy first. Good action, bad action, you just love them in action. So we want to make sure we have a story and a character that everybody loves and then we’ll dress it with action that we promise will be awesome.”

Despite being released last October in the US, and already being available to own on Blu-ray and DVD across the pond, John Wick is still busy making his way to UK shores, and won’t make his official UK release date until April 10th. All Brits can do for now (legally) is wait, and watch the official trailer here.
