Jungle Book Origins delayed to 2018

While early reviews of Jon Favreau’s/Disney’s upcoming CGI-laden remake of The Jungle Book are looking extremely positive, it’ll be a while before we hear anything from the Warner Bros. camp; as their planned film, Jungle Book: Origins, has just been delayed until 2018.

As part of a new schedule change (which has moved Wonder Woman‘s release date up to June 2nd 2017, and added two untitled DC films in before 2020), it’s not the first delay for the Andy Serkis directed film. Though perhaps a gap between Favreau’s take and Serkis’ own may work in Andy’s favour; as he himself has said “I’m absolutely thrilled that Warner Brothers have changed the delivery date of Jungle Book: Origins

“The ambition for this project is huge. What we are attempting is an unprecedented level of psychological and emotional nuance in morphing the phenomenal performances of our cast into the facial expressions of our animals. We are breaking new ground with realistic non-humanoid animal faces, such as a panther or wolf, ensuring that they convincingly communicate with human language and emotion via performance capture, and are able to stand up to real scrutiny in richly complex dramatic scenes.

“So, every minute more that we have to evolve the technological pipeline will make all the difference…the evidence is there already and it’s off the chain exciting, so hang on in there…This is truly next generation storytelling, and it will be the real deal!”

Jungle book: Origins will be Serkis’ first feature length directorial effort (stepping up after completing some impressive second unit work on The Hobbit trilogy), is set to star Christian Bale (The Dark Knight Rises), Cate Blanchett (The Lord of the Rings), Benedict Cumberbatch (The Imitation Game), and Naomie Harris (Spectre), and is now scheduled for release on October 19th 2018.
