For a time it looked like we’d never get to see Pirates of the Caribbean director Gore Verbinski realise his vision of The Lone Ranger, but then the budget was eventually reigned in, approved by Disney, and filming began, though everything went a bit quiet after the release of the film’s first image back in March, until now; as there’s not only a brand new trailer available to view below, but a collection of new images from The Lone Ranger.
Starring Armie Hammer (The Social Network) as the titular do-gooder in the new adaptation of the classic western, and Johnny Depp (Pirates of the Caribbean) as his Native American sidekick Tonto, The Lone Ranger has been described by Verbinski as “a dysfunctional buddy movie” because “they have plenty of disagreements”, and “completely different world views”, but “end up on the same mission.”
While the plot still remains largely a mystery, the fact that Depp and Verbinski have already worked together on a well received western (Rango) puts the film in good stead, and with the highly eccentric take on the classic tale, obviously stunning visuals, and a cast that also includes the likes of William Fichtner (Drive Angry), Helena Bonham Carter (Alice in Wonderland), Tom Wilkinson (Batman Begins), Barry Pepper (Saving Private Ryan), and James Frain (Tron: Legacy), The Lone Ranger should be one to watch when it’s released on July 3rd in the US, before dragging its heels to its official UK release date on August 9th 2013.
