In a surprise piece of casting which continues to place more and more big names in the Christopher Nolan (Batman Begins) produced, Zack Snyder (Sucker punch) directed, Superman movie; Man of Steel; Enterntainment Weekly have just announced that The Matrix’s Laurence Fishburne has been cast as Perry White; the surly editor of The Daily Planet (the newspaper for which the titular Superhero writes).

Whilst the casting will likely have a number of die-hard comic enthusiasts (the likes of whom complained about Idris Elba appearing in Thor, and Michael Clarke Duncan playing the Kingpin in Daredevil) up-in-arms about the fact a black man has been cast in the traditionally white role, yet there’s no denying that Fishburne (fresh out out leaving the CSI team) has more than enough screen presence to take on the role, and appear alongside Henry Cavill (The Tudors’ star who will be playing Clark Kent/Superman), and Amy Adams (The Fighter star who’s playing Lois Lane).

Also appearing are Kevin Costner (Prince of Thieves) and Diane Lane (Unfaithful); as Superman’s adoptive parents; Russell Crowe (Gladiator); as Superman’s biological father; and Michael Shannon (Boardwalk Empire); as fellow Kryptonian, and all round bad-guy, General Zod.

Production on Man of Steel is currently underway, with the film set to fully begin shooting this coming autumn, and although it was originally scheduled to be released in December 2012, the increasing crowding of the 2012 Christmas period has seen the release date pushed back to June 2013, in both the US and UK.
