Marty McFly’s Back to the Future Part II Nike’s become a reality.

After Back to the Future producer Frank Marshall recently Tweeted a very cryptic message about the franchise; which inadvertently sparked rumours of a 3D Back to the Future re-release, or a possible remake; he later to put to bed such rumours by Tweeting a link to a short video/trailer, suggesting that Nike would shortly be releasing the iconic Nike Air Mags from Back to the Future Part II.

Marshall’s original Tweet simply stated that “something big is coming soon”, it was Back to the Future related, and that he “can’t say anything yet”, however that was quickly followed up by a quip that we are “going to need a lot of hoverboards” and a link to the Nike-filled video (complete with cues from the Back to the Future score) which can now be seen below, along with Nike’s subsequent official trailer; which was released when the world had official confirmation that the shoes were becoming a reality.

We’re still a few years away from 2015 (the year in which the scenes with the famous Air Mags were set), though the vision of the future contained within the movie continues to creep ever closer; as a number of technological innovations pictured within the 1989 sci-fi classic have since come into existence (including flat-panel TVs, 3D cinema, a rise in the use of plastic surgery, and though they’re not commonplace, some people say hoverboards do exist), and Nike’s latest release will bring us one step closer; even if they haven’t quite mastered the use of, self-tying, power laces, just yet.

Nike’s official announcement let excited fans know that there will only be 1500 pairs of the iconic Air Mags up for sale (in sizes 7-13), and that they will all be sold via various eBay auctions, which have now gone live, will end on September the 18th, and will all be used to raise money for The Michael J. Fox Foundation (a charity dedicated to finding a cure for Parkinson’s disease).
