While we recently heard Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse had been delayed, Sony took to CinemaCon in Las Vegas to announce yet more Spider-related movies; using a simple logo and sizzle-reel to announce an incoming third Venom movie.
The announcement should come as no surprise, given the first two films, which star Tom Hardy as anti-hero Eddie Brock earned over $1.4 billion at the Box Office (with Venom: Let There Be Carnage pulling in the second-highest opening of the pandemic, and only being blown away by Sony’s Spider-Man: No Way Home). Hardy, though not yet officially announced, will be expected to return for Venom 3.
Also announced during Sony’s presentation, which included teases for The Equalizer 3, Whitney Houston biopic I Wanna Dance With Somebody, and footage from Tom Hanks’ upcoming A Man Called Otto, was a sequel to Ghostbusters: Afterlife; which, while alluded to with post-credits scenes, was uncertain until now (despite Afterlife favouring far better with audiences than the last Ghostbusters reboot).
No release dates for either Ghostbusters, or Venom have been announced, and given there was no talk of any talent attached we’d bet they are a ways off yet, though it’s good to know Sony are still keeping some of their most popular franchises alive.
