Lord or War director Andrew Niccol’s upcoming sci-fi drama (which has been written, and is due to be directed, by him) has recently lost it’s title (as it was previously known as I’m.mortal), but gained a couple of new stars, that are due to appear, in this high-concept thriller, alongside the already attached, Batman Begins/Inception star, Cillian Murphy.
The film is set in the near future, after technology has allowed for the aging gene to be switched off, and time has become currency; meaning that people pay for luxuries with a portion of the time they have left alive, and that rich people can essentially live forever, yet poorer individuals become forced to beg for their lives.
Justin Timberlake (Black Snake Moan) has already signed on to appear as Will; a young man from the ghetto, who gets falsely accused of murdering a rich man for his time (a massive fortune in their universe), and promptly goes on the run, taking a young girl hostage along the way, as he struggles to survive.
Timberlake and his hostage Sylvia (who’s being portrayed by Chloe’s Amanda Seyfried), are due to be hunted by an officer from an organization known as the Timekeepers; played by Cillian Murphy; and his right-hand man (who will be played by Prom Night’s Collins Pennie), as they try to evade capture, and clear Will’s name.
Also attached to star is Vincent Kartheiser (Mad Men), as the father of Amanda Seyfried’s character, and in a rather odd choice, Olivia Wilde (who’ll be reuniting will Justin and Amanda, after working with them on Alpha Dog); who has signed on to play the part of Will’s mother, despite the fact that she is three years younger than the 29-year-old Justin Timberlake, and will clearly need a good deal of make-up to appear believable, as she really doesn’t appear old enough to have given birth to him nearly 30 years ago.
Olivia also has a fair number of other projects in the works at the moment, ensuring that she’s set to become an even bigger household name than she already is; as she’s already known for playing the young doctor known as Thirteen in TV’s House, will shortly be appearing in Disney’s Tron: Legacy, The Next Three Days, a couple of comedy roles, and has a major part in Jon Favreau’s (Iron Man) upcoming sci-fi western Cowboys & Aliens.
Filming was originally reported to have been scheduled to begin near the end of last month, and although that never happened, a huge casting call has gone out in the Burbank area of Los Angeles, and Justin Timberlake suggested that shooting is due to commence sometime this month; meaning that principal photography is imminent, and that the film should still be on track for it’s release next year.
