Despite the slew of reports that emerged over the weekend and were circulated across a number of hugely respected movie news sites (including a report from ourselves) who claimed to be providing the web with information straight from The Matrix’s Neo himself (Keanu Reeves), it appears as though the rumours of two future Matrix movies, were nothing but rumours.
The rumours of a further two entries in The Matrix franchise originated from the London International School of Performing Arts, where it was reported actor Keanu Reeves was giving a talk, and went on to not only talk about a third Bill & Ted movie, but state that the Wachowskis’ (the writing/directing team that created, wrote, and directed The Matrix trilogy) had completed work on a two-film treatment continuing the series, and considering filming it in 3D; something which The Playlist has now confirmed was a complete fabrication.
According to The Playlist; who claim to have reached out to Keanu’s reps; they have heard straight from the source (or at least his reps) that “none of it is true”, and that not only has the story of a fourth and fifth Matrix been falsified, but that he wasn’t even in a position to provide such information, as “he did not speak, nor get an award from, the London International School of Performing Arts.”
So, as we stressed when running the original story, any news on a Matrix sequel should be treated with more than a pinch of salt (until official confirmation is given, and work officially begins); as for now, it appears as though we’ve seen how deep the rabbit-hole goes, and won’t be taking another red pill anytime soon.
