Fans of the frankly brilliant 2018 animated Spider-Man movie, Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse had expected to see the eagerly-anticipated sequel released laster this year, but Sony Pictures recently delivered a blow; by announcing the follow-up, Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse, has been delayed until 2023.
Thankfully, it’s not the result of production issues, but a simple release-date reshuffle for Sony, which included the official announcement of The Equalizer 3; once again set to reunite Denzel Washington and director Antoine Fuqua, and due to be released on 01 September 2023.
Sony also announced an official release date for live-action Spider-universe film Madame Web; set to star Dakota Johnson as the titular web-slinger, alongside Euphoria‘s excellent Sydney Sweeney, and due to be released on 07 July 2023; one month after Spider-Man Across The Spider-Verse is released on 02 June 2023.
Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse Part II is now scheduled for a 29 March 2024 release.
