Supergirl renewed for Season 2

While the ratings have been iffy, and it’s been unable to secure quite the return upon investment per episode US network CBS were hoping for, Supergirl has just been renewed for a full second season – thanks to CW, the US home of Arrow, The Flash, and now DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow.

While it certainly makes sense to move the show to a more comic-book friendly network, CW doesn’t tend to grace its shows with quite as lavish a budget as CBS; meaning there could be some changes with the show going forward. Though the changes may not reside solely in budgetary and effects contributions, as various contracts may mean certain cast members might not return for Season 2.

Melissa Benoist will obviously reprise her role as the titular Supergirl, and the change will actually open up more opportunities for the character to be folded into the  Gerg Berlanti produced world of comic-book shows (including Arrow and The Flash); particularly as Supergirl and The Flash have already had one brief crossover, and there’s now talk of moving production to Vancouver in order to lower production costs.

From a broadcast point of view, we’d expect to see little change in the UK, as Supergirl will undoubtedly return to Sky1.
