Tron: Legacy, the sequel to the 1982 movie Tron; which was only a moderate success at the Box Office, yet earned a number of very positive reviews, and went on to become something of a cult phenomenon; is less than a couple of months away from its release date; meaning that the Disney marketing machine is now in full promotional swing, and has begun holding special preview screenings of the film, and has even released some footage of the film, in the form of a Daft Punk music video (which can be seen below).
In the new film Garrett Hedlund (Troy) plays Sam Flynn; the son of the first movie’s protagonist Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges, Crazy Heart); who has grown up troubled by the mysterious disappearance of his father, but meets him after he investigates a strange signal at an abandoned arcade, and gets sucked into the stunning digital world where his father has been trapped for the past 20 years; beginning a life-or-death journey as they try to escape.
Bridges (who is reprising his role from the first film) and Hedlund, are being joined by Olivia Wilde (the House star who’s soon set to become a massive name by starring in Tron: Legacy, The Next Three Days, Cowboys & Aliens, and the unnamed thriller previously known as I’m.mortal), Michael Sheen (Frost/Nixon), James Frain (The Tudors, and Beau Garrett (Paradise Lost), in the hotly anticipated movie that’s being presented in both IMAX 3D, and RealD 3D.
The recently released music video includes some new footage (although most of the footage included has been seen in trailers and elsewhere), and the new track ‘Derezzed’ from Daft Punk (who wrote the score for the movie), and provides a great look ahead to the film for anyone who hasn’t heard much about it.
The soundtrack is being released on December 7th; and promises to be truly something for anyone who likes synthesized scores, and possibly for listeners who are keen on club music; and the film itself is being released in the U.K. on December 16th, and in the U.S. on December 17th, but for now the new music video (of which there are a couple of versions floating around on the web) is free to view below.
