Based on the incredible true story of a drug-runner’s plane crash and the black bear who ate the entirety of his missing cocaine shipment, Universal’s Cocaine Bear has now been given an official release date.

Due to be directed by Elizabeth Banks (Power Rangers), and starring and eclectic cast which includes Keri Russell (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes), Ray Liotta (The Many Saints of Newark), Margo Martindale (Sneaky Pete), O’Shea Jackson Jr. (Straight Outta Compton), Isiah Whitlock Jr. (The Wire), Alden Ehrenreich (Solo: A Star Wars Story), and Jesse Tyler Ferguson (Modern Family), Cocaine Bear is set to tell the tale of the bear nicknamed Pablo Eskobear; who found and ate 40 kilos of pure cocaine, before suffering a very unpleasant death, and eventually going on to be stuffed and turned into a tourist attraction.

Banks’ film however will focus on an oddball collection of cops, teens, tourists, and criminals who all converge in the forest, where the legendary bear goes on a rampage looking for more coke, when Cocaine Bear is released on 24 February 2023.
